The Tale of A Fearless Stray Dog Attacked by a Lioness in Sasan Gir Forest, Shows How to Survive in Wild

The Tale of A Fearless Stray Dog Attacked by a Lioness in Sasan Gir Forest, Shows How to Survive in Wild

Gir National Park, a deep jungle spread across 1,153 square kilometers, situated in Junagadh district, Gujarat, is a fully protected wildlife sanctuary, home to numbers of flora and fauna. The globally famous Gir Forest and Wildlife Sanctuary has been listed among the seven best-protected regions selected for their noble contribution to the ecosystem, which they perform through some biodiversity conservation by the Eco-Development project.

The World Bank has executed the entire eco-development project for the Sasan Gir National Park, while the funding has been collected from the Global Environment Facility. And of course, the noble project didn't have achieved success had the forest officials joined in. Their simultaneous effort has brought accomplishment in conserving the endangered Asiatic Lions' endmost refuge, which was about to extinct some years back. These royal and magnificent Asiatic Lions are the main attraction of the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, attracting crowds of visitors from every corner of the globe.

Today, we are here to tell you a tale of two adorable natural habitats of this area, a fearless stray and an elegant lioness. An interesting video clip was viral on the internet back in 2019, which is said to be shot within the Gir Forest Map premises.

In the video, which was shot inside the Gir National Park, we can see an Asiatic lioness, during her hunting, locks her target on a stray at a distance of a few meters. The lioness is then seen running furiously towards the dog, trying to grab its neck with the help of her jaws and claws, just the way she injures her targets. But what happens next left all the viewers stunned.

The dog, showing utter bravery, confronts the royal cat, and fights with her. A one-on-one battle occurs between the two differently sized and dissimilarly powerful brutes, both living in and around the Sasan Gir Forest.

But the result was unexpected. The dog, which was way smaller and had much less strength than the lioness, gave a tough battle to the enormous beast and succeeded in escaping her clasp. Finally, the lioness falls silent, and perhaps quite upset on her defeat, and leaves the place slowly. The local people around Gir Forest captured the whole incident on a mobile camera, and later, the video was posted on the internet, went viral with a lot of likes and shares.

Wasn’t the footage remarkable? The entire incident has epitomized the strength of will power, how refusing to give up saved the stray from becoming the meal for the deadly carnivore.

Unified Approach towards Conserving Asiatic Lions in

Gir National Park

The globally famous Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary has secured a place in the list of
seven protected regions selected for the noble approach of biodiversity conservation by the Eco-
Development Project. The World Bank has executed this entire project and the Global
Environment Facility is funding it. The forest conservation by the forest officials has also joined
in together; they all have started paying great simultaneous efforts in conserving the endmost
refuge of the endangered Asiatic lion species in Gir Forest.
Some prohibitory steps are being taken, such as bringing limitations to the number of tourists
visiting every year for Gir National Park safari or resettlement of people from the Maldhari
tribe residing at the protected zones. considered as 'core areas.' All these are being done to fulfill the needs of national policies under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The approach towards transferring the locality is one of the vital and most appreciating steps
among all the measures that have been taken for the fulfillment of the operation. This course of
action ensures restrictions for the inhabitants or tribal people of that area against entering the Gir
Wildlife Sanctuary. Thus, the Gir forest map'score areas will now stay protected according to
the necessity of the operation.

The steps taken through this whole course of action to save the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary has
brought about a diminution in the access of the Maldharis to the jungle resources. Thus, the
restriction has given birth to an unspoken cold conflict between the forest department and the
ones who were the forest dwellers till a while back.
However, years of experience have made us realize that successful and productive management
of Sasan Gir Safari would not have been possible without meeting the local inhabitants' well-
founded needs. The ongoing study regarding the entire matter is an endeavor to delve deep into
the necessities of the localities and be mindful of the people's perception towards the
conservation of the wildlife sanctuary. Besides, the survey helps the people from the forest
realize the benefits of the Gir National Park's conservation process.

The surveys were done carrying out some sample villages selected from three categories, i.e.,
forest settlement, revenue, and nesses (from both the East and West Division under the protected
areas). The study disclosed that the concept of conserving the Gir Forest had been well-
supported by the inhabitants. However, the fear of insecurity has sometimes invited hindrance
towards apt preservation. Dependence of the localities on the forest is not noteworthy, apart from
the lower-income community. But, somehow, the forest department's indifferent attitude is also
responsible for the conflict among the animals/humans/crops.

The Asiatic Lions: The Regal Beasts Dwelling in Gir National Park

The Asiatic Lions:  The Regal Beasts Dwelling in Gir National Park

August 10, the World Lion Day. The day is observed across the entire world to edify people about these royal beasts, and the concerns regarding the conservation of this species. Asiatic lion, the kings of
Gir forest is now having its place in International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) red list of endangered species. However, the famous Gir National Park houses Asiatic lions in large numbers.

One of the major attractions of Sasan Gir safari, Asiatic lions has some physical dissimilarity with African lions. Asiatic lions are a bit smaller than African lions and moderate mane growth on their head makes their ears visible, African lions don't share this feature. Another intriguing physical trait of the Asiatic lion is a longitudinal skin fold, which is visible along with its belly, very uncommon in African lions.

These majestic predators generally choose to catch prey in night's darkness and early morning. When preys are available, they can go hunting every two to four days. Lions can also stay hungry for over a week.  Sambar, Nilgai, Chital, and wild pig are generally the preys it likes to feast on. 5 to 7 kg of meat daily is a necessity for them. But, when they have much for eating, lions can easily consume meat as much as 20% to 30% of their body weight.

The royal beast, and the main attraction of Gir safari, never kill for amusement. And, this distinct nature makes these animals different than other predators. Without going for excessive killings, it kills only for food, and it performs the task with minute stratagems. Lions always hunt in a pack; they wait near water points of the forest, looking for animals, which come for drinking water. It remains silent; it remains ambushed and attacks its prey without giving a clue.

Why It is Important to Save Lions

Lions are the predators of the apex group, and its killings maintain the populations of grazers and browsers. Hence, conserving lions are important for keeping the forest areas and habitats protected. And, that is how the biodiversity of the planet also can be conserved.

Lions are one of the cultural identities of India. Hence, mentions of this majestic beast can be found in our rich mythology too. The local people of Gir and greater Gir area often showcase their pride, as they have the opportunity to coexist with nature. Lions have also taken part in many of their tales and stories.

My Travel experience at Gir National Park 2016

I Booked trip by Daily Tour & Travel Pvt. Ltd. www.girlion.in Now today we will go to Gir, the place where there is Asiatic lions. It is only 45km from Somnath and we have to reach there by twelve. So there is nothing to rush. We wake up apathetically and get prepared by 10AM. The taxi had as of now touched base at that point. Rapidly we look at and say farewell to Somnath. The center movements from religion to natural life!! The journey took us a hour and by 11 AM we were at our resort in Sasan Gir!!

The main reason individuals come to Gir National Park is to see lions and we were no special case. We had only two days to use it totally. We will go on every one of the four safaris. Whether we see lion or not but rather that is the best way to appreciate Gir National Park.

Some Important information about Gir National Park

Gir National Park is the main spot on the planet where you see Asiatic Lions in wild!! Furthermore, it is also only place where Lions roam freely in India. Forest office permits 3 safaris for every day. They are between 6AM – 9AM, 9:30AM – 12:30PM and 3PM – 6PM. Timimg fluctuates a little in summer. A limit of 45 Jeeps per safari is imposed by forest department. There are 8 safari routes and every Jeep will be doled out one of them. All 100% of total safari permits of Gir jungle Trail are available online And afterward the Jeeps should be hired by traveler, tourist can also book safari's permit and jeep by www.girnationalparkonline.in, this website also give more facilities like different Gir tour packages, Hotels and Resort in cheap rate.

Safaris in Gir National Park

In first safari, we just saw few sambar deers and peacocks. The driver and guide both are very knowing person of Gir National Park. It was really adventures life time experience for me. My daughter and wife choose not to seek morning safari on next day. I imparted the Jeep to an American couple. This time we get the best driver and aide. However, unfortunately luck was not our side. We saw pug marks of a lion that went in front of us a couple of minutes prior. The best sight of the morning safari was a group of wild hog!!

The first lion locating in Gir National Park

I was bit disappointed before the end of second safari. Lions are less modest compared with tigers yet the creature was elusive for me. It took me quite a while to locate a tiger but then there are numerous forests still where tigers are found. But to see lion, I need to return to Gir!!
But things turned better in third safari. The primary lion sighting was to happen. It was an enormous male lion sleeping after an overwhelming dinner!! To our fortunes it was resting very close to the street. The forest department' people were not permitting all Jeeps to encompass the lion. They ensured that only one vehicle permitted at once close to the lion. It was shocking to see the lion sleeping unmindful of noises created by humans outside.

The second lion

After a long time we saw the second lion. A tracker informed about a lion sitting on top a hillock. The Jeep takes an alternate route from the safari course to go close to the lion. Once more, this lion was slightest made a big deal about human nearness. What astonished me was that the tracker and aides getting down from the vehicle and walking. This was a typical sight in Gir where guides get down from the vehicle to see the lion. Such things don't happen in tiger region!!
And while returning we again see the resting lion. The lion had now moved near the street and was getting prepared for one more "day"!!

Lions and lions!!

It was the third day in Gir and also my last safari. The forest was very quiet with only noise coming from the Jeep. A woman in the Jeep requests that the driver stop the vehicle to take photo of a spotted deer. Furthermore, I see something yellow animal moving far away. A lion!! Driver likewise sees it in the meantime and instantly pushes the accelerator. It was a male lion walking out on the road. We tail it from behind at a conscious separation. And after that a second lion goes along with it!! I mix up it for a lioness but guide informs that it was a young male without mane. But at that point more Jeeps begin coming in. The lions don't care for it and float away.

But still one of them walks on the road and we follow. The two jeeps behind us overwhelm from both sides and go extremely close to the lion. The lion demonstrates its anger and comes extremely close to our vehicle. Seeing lion from an open Jeep at such a nearby separation was to much. Scolding different drivers for stupidity, our aide requests that the driver switch the vehicle. The lion gets some space to move in and rapidly joins the other one. And after that they slip into the forest.

This was the best time in my Gir trip. I had never expected to have such an experience. The experience amid last 5-10 minutes will never be forgotten!!

Couple of minutes after the fact, we see a panther holing up behind a bramble. But the panther never left the shrubbery.
