Now today we will go to Gir, the place where there is Asiatic lions. It is only
45km from Somnath and we have to reach there by twelve. So there is nothing to
rush. We wake up apathetically and get prepared by 10AM. The taxi had as of now
touched base at that point. Rapidly we look at and say farewell to Somnath. The
center movements from religion to natural life!! The journey took us a hour and
by 11 AM we were at our resort in Sasan Gir!!
The main reason individuals come to Gir National Park is to
see lions and we were no special case. We had only two days to use it totally.
We will go on every one of the four safaris. Whether we see lion or not but
rather that is the best way to appreciate Gir National Park.

Safaris in Gir
National Park
In first safari,
we just saw few sambar deers and peacocks. The driver and guide both are very
knowing person of Gir National Park. It was really adventures life time
experience for me. My daughter and
wife choose not to seek morning safari on next day. I imparted the Jeep to an
American couple. This time we get the best driver and aide. However,
unfortunately luck was not our side. We saw pug marks of a lion that went in
front of us a couple of minutes prior. The best sight of the morning safari was
a group of wild hog!!
The first lion locating in Gir
National Park
I
was bit disappointed before the end of second safari. Lions are less modest
compared with tigers yet the creature was elusive for me. It took me quite a
while to locate a tiger but then there are numerous forests still where tigers
are found. But to see lion, I need to return to Gir!!
But
things turned better in third safari. The primary lion sighting was to happen.
It was an enormous male lion sleeping after an overwhelming dinner!! To our
fortunes it was resting very close to the street. The forest department' people
were not permitting all Jeeps to encompass the lion. They ensured that only one
vehicle permitted at once close to the lion. It was shocking to see the lion
sleeping unmindful of noises created by humans outside.
The second lion
After
a long time we saw the second lion. A tracker informed about a lion sitting on
top a hillock. The Jeep takes an alternate route from the safari course to go
close to the lion. Once more, this lion was slightest made a big deal about
human nearness. What astonished me was that the tracker and aides getting down
from the vehicle and walking. This was a typical sight in Gir where guides get
down from the vehicle to see the lion. Such things don't happen in tiger
region!!
And
while returning we again see the resting lion. The lion had now moved near the
street and was getting prepared for one more "day"!!
Lions and lions!!
It
was the third day in Gir and also my last safari. The forest was very quiet
with only noise coming from the Jeep. A woman in the Jeep requests that the
driver stop the vehicle to take photo of a spotted deer. Furthermore, I see
something yellow animal moving far away. A lion!! Driver likewise sees it in
the meantime and instantly pushes the accelerator. It was a male lion walking out
on the road. We tail it from behind at a conscious separation. And after that a
second lion goes along with it!! I mix up it for a lioness but guide informs
that it was a young male without mane. But at that point more Jeeps begin
coming in. The lions don't care for it and float away.
But
still one of them walks on the road and we follow. The two jeeps behind us
overwhelm from both sides and go extremely close to the lion. The lion
demonstrates its anger and comes extremely close to our vehicle. Seeing lion
from an open Jeep at such a nearby separation was to much. Scolding different
drivers for stupidity, our aide requests that the driver switch the vehicle.
The lion gets some space to move in and rapidly joins the other one. And after
that they slip into the forest.
This
was the best time in my Gir trip. I had never expected to have such an
experience. The experience amid last 5-10 minutes will never be forgotten!!
Couple
of minutes after the fact, we see a panther holing up behind a bramble. But the
panther never left the shrubbery.
